There’s nothing like the smell of freshly baked bread to fill a kitchen with warmth, eager appetites, and endless praise for the baker who took on such a time-consuming task. Now, you can fill your kitchen with the irresistible aromas of a French bakery every day with just five minutes of active preparation time, and Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day will show you how.

Coauthors Jeff Hertzberg and Zoë François prove that bread baking can be easier than a trip to the bakery. Their method is quick and simple, bringing forth scrumptious perfection in each loaf. Delectable creations will emerge straight from your own oven as warm, indulgent masterpieces that you can finally make for yourself. In exchange for a mere five minutes of your time, your breads will rival those of the finest bakers in the world.

Summary: Wonderful "easy" home made bread
Comment: I really love this book. I'm trying to eat more whole foods that are easy to make at home - this book allows me to meet this goal. I've made two batches of the main dough and just bought some rye flour to try that recipe. My kids love it too. Living in the Midwest my oven is on a lot in the colder months so it's easy to pop in a loaf for dinner or first thing in the morning to bring to work and share w/ co-workers over a bowl of soup during lunch.

Summary: Great for non bakers!
Comment: I'm not a baker in any way... but this book was recommended by a chef. Our loaves, pitas, pretzels, pizzas, are all fantastic. It's so easy to create a quick, tasty loaf of bread. The entire house smells great. My friends are envious of the pictures I email them of the loaves. You won't be disappointed, or frustrated in attempts to make these breads. We highly recommend it. I'm currently on Amazon to buy my third copy, second as a gift.

Summary: I'm Finally Baking Bread
Comment: I have always been intimidated by bread baking - believing that I had neither the time nor the skill to bake my family's bread. I considered buying a machine, but some sweet girls gave me a heads up about this book and gave me the recipe for European Peasant Bread. I tried it, loved it, and ordered the book. For several weeks I have been making a loaf nearly every day and my family loves the fresh bread. I am singing the praises of this book to friends who would also like to bake for their families but have very little time. I cannot wait to try more recipes from this book!

Summary: Kiss off $20
Comment: The authors have taken parts of the Sullivan no knead recipe and created a so-called 'secret', and sold a book based on it. Once you know a very few things, the authors' book is revealed in a few pages. The rest of the book is filler.

Here is the secret: make a multi-loaf batch of dough (google the no knead recipe), put it in the fridge, and when you want a loaf, cut off a 1 pound hunk, shape it, and bake. When the dough gets ugly, start over.

Most bakers know how to use refrigeration to build flavor. The Sullivan no knead recipe is brilliant in simplicity if you want to enjoy an crusty loaf. Cook's Illustrated tweaked the recipe a bit with the addition of beer and a few changes in technique, so there are plenty of ways to create great bread without spending a day baking or paying $20 for a vapid book that can be reduced to a few pages of insight (if that).

There are a number of truly great bread books: Hamelman, Silverton, Leader, Reinhart, etc. Don't waste your money on faddish fluff.

Summary: Clear and well written
Comment: I am enjoying my copy, the instructions and explanations are clear and well written-and the end product is delicious! I brought in my first batch of bread to share with my coworkers and one of them immediatly bought a copy of the book for herself.
