From a helicopter high above the empty California desert, a man is sent free-falling into the night…. In Chicago, a woman learns that an elite team of ex–army investigators is being hunted down one by one.... And on the streets of Portland, Jack Reacher—soldier, cop, hero—is pulled out of his wandering life by a code that few other people could understand. From the first shocking scenes in Lee Child’s explosive new novel, Jack Reacher is plunged like a knife into the heart of a conspiracy that is killing old friends…and is on its way to something even worse.
A decade postmilitary, Reacher has an ATM card and the clothes on his back—no phone, no ties, and no address. But now a woman from his old unit has done the impossible. From Chicago, Frances Neagley finds Reacher, using a signal only the eight members of their elite team of army investigators would know. She tells him a terrifying story—about the brutal death of a man they both served with. Soon Reacher is reuniting with the survivors of his old team, scrambling to raise the living, bury the dead, and connect the dots in a mystery that is growing darker by the day. The deeper they dig, the more they don’t know: about two other comrades who have suddenly gone missing—and a trail that leads into the neon of Vegas and the darkness of international terrorism.
For now, Reacher can only react. To every sound. Every suspicion. Every scent and every moment. Then Reacher will trust the people he once trusted with his life—and take this thing all the way to the end. Because in a world of bad luck and trouble, when someone targets Jack Reacher and his team, they’d better be ready for what comes right back at them…

Customer Rating: Summary: Bad Luck & Trouble by Lee Child Comment: One of Lee Child's best Jack Reacher novels is "Bad Luck and Trouble."
The story line grabs you from the first sentence and it's one of those "can't put it down" books. I've enjoyed all of the Jack Reacher novels. He's the guy you want to have on your side; he has his code that he lives by and he will see any situation through to the end, in his own style. If you like Ross McDonald, Robert Parker, Michael Connolly, Lee Block, and Robert Crais, you will enjoy spending time with Reacher.
As with many good characters and good stories, it is a pleasure to get to know the character from their first story up until the most recently published adventure. We learn more about Reacher's past in "Bad Luck and Trouble," and through this story, understand a little more about the ex-military loner who brings his own brand of justice to set things right.
Customer Rating: Summary: Breathtaking Comment: This was my first jack reacher novel. I picked it up in an airport and was unable to put it down. I was mesmerized by Reacher and his ways. I have since gone back and read the first three novels, Killing Floor, Die Trying and Tripwire. I highly recommend all of these. Lee Child definitley has a talent in getting his audience to pull for this "everyman" character. I have read several authors...Grisham, Thor, Baldacci, Connelly, Crais, DeMille, Griffin,Flynn, Frey, Patterson etc and Child packs the same type of dynamo. You won't regret reading his novels..
Customer Rating: Summary: Lots of twist and turns Comment: I've read some of Lee Child's Jack Reacher novels. I would say that this novel might be his best. I thought the book had every thing that a great suspense novel should have: a great plot, realistic characters, suspense and lots of twist and turns. If you enjoy the Reacher series I'd recommend this book.
Customer Rating: Summary: Chicks Like Action Books Too Comment: As you'll begin to see by the books I review here, I have very eclectic taste in books. Some might think the Reacher books by Lee Child are more suited to a male audience, but, hey, this is the era of the kickass girl.
As a woman who took karate in Okinawa (decades ago before that was a common thing) with an Army tank of a sensei, I like to think I fit the kickass paradigm. I wholeheartedly enjoy these books so read on. You may find you enjoy them too.
If you've ever watched The Unit starring Dennis Haysbert then it's not a great stretch to imagine if The Unit personnel retired and wrote books, the books would be pretty much like a Jack Reacher novel.
In Bad Luck and Trouble, members of Reacher's Special Investigators are being killed. The other members ride to the rescue. Reacher and his former team members, notably Frances Neagley whose picture probably resides next to the word kickass in the dictionary, set about making things right and making those responsible pay.
I won't give away any spoilers because it really is a neat action book, but with surprisingly mild language from these characters. The action melds well with a mathematical savant element of Reacher's personality. Plus, Lee Child actually writes a good love scene for a male author. Kudos to Mr. Child.
All in all, it's like a very good read with buddy humor, good characters, nice suspense, a little shocking violence, and a really good, smart payback.
The book made the rounds of my family. Read it, and you too will be waiting for the next Jack Reacher novel from Lee Child.
