If a broom falls company is due. When a circle rings the moon trouble looms Should you misplace your broom sorry; a hand vac can't be used in an exorcism rite. Fun and excitement abound in the Owens family of wily witches. One problem though: the men the Owens women fall in love with are doomed to an untimely death. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman bring a sparkling screen magic to Practical Magic adapted from Alice Hoffman's bestseller and directed by Griffin Dunne (Addicted to Love). They play Sally and Gillian Owens sisters hexed by a centuries -old curse...and coping with a witches brew of events involving a possible love match (Aidan Quinn) for one a zombie (Goran Visnjic) for the other and a need to resume the age-old witchcraft taught by two doting Owens aunts (Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest). Sit for a spell and enjoy.Running Time: 110 min.System Requirements:Starring: Sandra Bullock Nicole Kidman et al. Customer Rating: Summary: Marvelous! Comment: I loved this movie, can't believe I havent seen it before. Wonderful cast and acting. If you like a little real majick you will definitely enjoy this movie.
Customer Rating: Summary: one of my favorites! Comment: This is one of my favorite movies. A good combination of drama, comedy and just a little bit of cheesiness makes it very entertaining. It has a great soundtrack as well.
Customer Rating: Summary: Mildly Entertaining But No Witches of Eastwick Comment: This film lacks the acting chops and the wicked appeal of
The Witches of Eastwick. I adore Sandra Bullock and Diane
Weist and Stockard Channing are always favorites, but
Nicole Kidman's fake looking wig, gangly white legs, and
artificial sounding American accent ruined it for me. It could
have been a great film if they had chosen someone more
appropriate for Bullock's sister in the movie. Too bad Kate
Hudson or Anne Hathaway weren't available at the time. If
you have to own it, buy it used.
Customer Rating: Summary: movie Comment: This is my favorite movie and I was so happy to be able to get it at such a great price. Thanks
Customer Rating: Summary: A Pleasing Bit of Movie Magic Comment: When I find a movie that both I and my husband like it is a rare find indeed. That's what happened with Practical Magic. Having read the book and enjoyed it immensely it was a natural for me to want the movie.
Although the movie version deviates from the book and the viewer loses much of the backstory, it is lovingly adapted and given wonderful treatment. The scenes of the young sisters living in the aunts house especially were full of detail. Costuming was wonderful (in the case of the ecentric aunts especially). Cinematography captured all of the essence of New England in various seasons and made this native New Englander a bit nostalgic.
If you've read the book keep an open mind here and you will enjoy the film immensely. While all of the actors gave solid performances I mostly enjoyed Stockard Channing's portrayal of Aunt Frances.
I think this movie could easily replace Hocus Pocus as a Halloween favorite.
