Ushering in the age of the inferior sequel, Jaws 2 was essentially a license to print money. Indeed, the film did very well despite blatantly replicating the plot of Steven Spielberg's original, though to lesser effect. Roy Scheider returns as Martin Brody, sheriff of the small island town of Amity. Just as the beachside resort is rebounding from the previous movie's shark attacks, another great white is snacking on divers and water-skiers. Naturally, the town fathers don't want to confront reality and choose to proceed with a lucrative sailing regatta, resulting in a grisly loss of life. Besides the fact that director Jeannot Szwarc takes an impersonal, workaday approach to the film, Jaws 2 manages to be both stylistically flat and openly cynical about its commercial intentions. Of chief interest here is Scheider's performance, which wisely reflects the emotional fallout from Brody's last trauma in his obsessive behavior here. --Tom Keogh

Customer Rating: Summary: The Other White Meat Comment: Not as good as the first one, but worth watching. I am starting to root for the shark.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not as good as the original. Comment: Jaws two is ok, just not great.
The shark is still cool, but it's basically the first movie remade poorly.
The script is ok, the acting is ok.
All in all it's not a must see.
If you liked one, you may want to rent this one.
Customer Rating: Summary: NOT AS GOOD AS THE FIRST, BUT CLOSE . Comment: Roy Scheider is back as police Chief Martin Brody of the small town of Amity to hunt down another killer great white shark minus his sidekicks Richard Dreyfuss and Robert Shaw. It appears another great white has made it's way into Amity to wreck havoc on the small town and scare away the summer tourists that the town relies on for it's summer dollars. As usual , once it's become quite clear to Chief Brody that there's another great white to deal with he confronts the mayor Larry Vaugnn( Murrey Hamilton) and the town officials that there's another shark to deal with they deny that it's any such thing because of the fact it will scare away tourists . While the first Jaws was a box office hit directed by Steven Spielberg and the sequel considered somewhat inferior by critics , I have to say it was very close to entertaining as the first and an excellent sequel .
Customer Rating: Summary: Scarier than the first Comment: Nearly 10 years before I was born, there was a shark terrorising the cinema audience. Three years later (and still I wasn't around) a second shark came back to make sure we didn't dip a toe in the ocean.
Thirty plus years on from the first movie, it makes me terrified to even think about going near the ocean. (And I like beach holidays.) Jaws 2, not the best movie to watch on a bright sunny day, but it certainly passed the time. I did feel that it could have been edited slightly better, even by 10 minutes, cos it did seem to drag between killings, and shark sightings.
The great thing about Jaws 2 is that some of the original cast come back. I don't think it would have worked without Roy Schneider personally. He made the first movie for me, and he was even better in the second movie.
You know the storyline. A shark is back in the waters surrounding Amity Island, looking for meat, human meat is its favourite. The deaths start happening, people start mysteriously disappearing, a killer whale is washed up on the beach with huge bites taken out of it, and it's up to Brody to convince everyone that the shark is back. Bigger and better than ever.
Despite its length, and the fact you saw more of the shark this time, for me it was definitely scarier. The shark gets burnt early on in the movie, and it gives it a whole new look. Definitely scared the bejeezus out of me. The film doesn't really hit its peak until the last 35 minutes, when I was holding my breath, and trying not to look away from the screen.
I won't reveal too much more about the movie, you have to see it. After this, I hear the sequels got downright awful, so I think this will be the last of my Jaws reviews! They sound awful. But I do think my mum has all of them. Shocking. But the Jaws films still have the same effect on me and probably a lot of other viewers, as they did in the seventies. It still scares me.
Customer Rating: Summary: Roy Scheider saves the movie. Comment: Jaws II is a fine sequel to sit through when nothing else is on. This movie works because it still has that '70's vibe to it, like Jaws. Parts III and IV are pure 1980's cheese.
Not a scary movie, extremely fake shark, annoying teenagers (although, to this day, I have a crush on Brooke (Gigi Vorgan)!!
Roy Scheider makes this movie very entertaining with his scenes with Lorraine Gary and Jeff Kramer and Murray Hamilton. Even with bad material, Roy is watchable and elevates a bad movie. When he is off screen, and the teens are on screen, the movie changes somewhat for the worse, but, still a nice movie to watch when you want to shut your brain off for 2 hours. It's funny, this movie completely lacks any of the fishermen from the first movie searching for this latest shark. It's as though the entire island forgot about a giant shark a few years ago. You would think there would be a fishermen frenzy again to help Brody find this shark. But, I guess you can't just repeat the story of Jaws I.
Roy will be sorely missed. He defined 1970's cinema. He was my 1970's James Dean/Humphrey Bogart in a way.........always cool, always with a cigarette. My mind shutters to think what great work Roy would have done with "The Exorcist" (I read he wanted the role of Father Karras), The Omen (I read he had signed on for Gregory Peck's role, then dropped out), The Deer Hunter (DeNiro's role...Roy also backed out here), and The Verdict (he wanted Paul Newman's role).
He would have nailed any of these roles.
Goodbye, Roy!
