Customer Rating: Summary: Great early 80s b grade sci-fi horror movie Comment: Its a good movie on its own terms and definitely one of the better ones of this type out there. Watching it makes me feel like a kid watching a good 50s horror movie. Its not a good movie like "Alien" but its obvious that somebody knew what they were doing, especially the production.
Customer Rating: Summary: A Great Movie for it's time - BE CAREFUL IT'S PAL FORMAT WHEN ORDERED USED OR NEW FROM THIS PAGE Comment: When it was released, this movie was ahead of it's time in special effects and story line. True, it is now dated and aged, but it's worth viewing to see well-known actors and for the effects and story line. There is a scene which I will refer to as "under the skin", which you will NOT forget. Of couse, there's the famous "worm" scene, that's not too shabby, as well. There are a few scenes that have been repeated in other movies over the years, and a few that are unique to this movie. I don't want to give them away.
HERE IS MY MAIN REASON FOR WRITING THIS REVIEW: BEWARE -- SOME "GALAXY OF TERROR" PAGES ARE FOR A PAL FORMATTED DVD OR TAPE WHICH WILL NOT PLAY ON YOUR STANDARD NTSC PLAYER. CHECK THE DVD OR TAPE DETAILS ABOVE. MANY PEOPLE HAVE WASTED THEIR MONEY, INCLUDING ME.
Customer Rating: Summary: after "alien" roger corman rushed this and one other "rip-off "into production Comment: this is a roger corman quickie, produced after the hit "alien"
a spaceship is sent out to find the crew of another ship lost on a planet. after they get there the crew is attacked by there own fears and it becomes a case of who will live and who will die. if the f/x look like you have seen them before, you have in about 4 or 5 other corman produced sci-fi films. not great but a little better than your average rip-off,and far more fun.
Customer Rating: Summary: Where's the DVD already?? Comment: I know this wasn't a great movie, but is has developed a cult following over the years. What I don't understand, is that this movie is in DVD in countrys like Itlaly and England. So, why not here in the States??
The last time I saw this movie, it was on an old VHS tape. As you can imagine the quality was awful. I am dying to see all the scenes in a more polished version that a DVD offers. Now it would be silly to think it would go through the digital enhancement one would like. That's too expensive for such a film as this, but it would make some company some money to do this. Hopefully they will soon.
As for the movie itself. I enjoyed it for what it was. A decent horror/sc-fi flick for it's time. I wish people would stop comparing it to Alien. All Sci-fi creature movies are alway compared to it...let movies stand on there one. This one does, it has a legendary scene with a blond girl and huge slimy creature. Alien never had that!!! And who could forget Erin Moran(good old innocent Joanie from Happy Days) get squished like a bug. Fun stuff.Look out for Freddy Krueger's Robert Englund in the cast. James Cameron got his start here too. There is quite a lot to this film and it's history so for God's sake...somebody buy the rights and put it out on DVD already!!!
Customer Rating: Summary: One of the Better B Terror Films Comment: I saw this when first released at the theater. It was a great terror movie. The tension runs throughout the movie as a group tries to escape a planet that prays upon their fears. One scene with a giant caterpillar and a scantilly clad lady was rather erotic. A good movie for fans of movies like Hellraiser and Phantasm. Erin Moran and Robert Englund even do a decent job of acting. This is not something to take to serious, but to sit down and watch with a big bowl of popcorn some afternoon or evening. It certainly doesn't deserved to be put in the MST3K archive. Considering the time it was made and its budget I think it holds up pretty well. Look at how few SciFi movies that were made in the early 1980s have survived.
