Joel and his robot friends, Tom Servo and Crow, are marooned on the derelict Satellite of Love and forced to watch horrendously lousy movies. In this episode, they're subjected to this inexplicably titled film--the subterranean denizens appear for all of two confusing minutes and add absolutely nothing to the plot. Not that there's much of a plot to add to. Miles O'Keefe stars as the warrior Ator, whose bare chest and loincloth prompt Crow to ask, "How much Keefe is in this movie?" Tom and Joel answer, "Miles O'Keefe." Ator, his buckskin-clad babe, and a scrawny martial-arts sidekick--Ã la Kato--try to save civilization (though no one appears to be too civilized) from a superweapon called--get this--a "Geometric Nucleus." "Why do they have such fancy names for stupid things?" wonders Crow. Even though Ator can't muster up a pair of pants, he does manage to construct a hang glider in five minutes from a bunch of sticks. On top of all that, the bad guy looks like some demented cross between Doug Henning and Sonny Bono and is just about as threatening. And the cut-rate, low-budget special effects inspire a hilarious rant from the boys. All of which makes for an MST3K classic. --Tod Nelson

Customer Rating: Summary: "Tolkien couldn't follow this plot" Comment: "Cave Dwellers" has a hilariously inaccurate title, for the titular cave dwellers appear during the opening credits-then briefly later during the plot, such as it is. Joel and the 'bots take the "epic" for what it is---comic gold. It's one of the best MST3K episodes, because the movie is needlessly complicated-and stupid.
A medieval scientist with a dangerous weapon called the "geometric nucleus" sends his daughter Mila to the mighty Ator ("the dude looks like a lady") Ator is Miles O'Keefe, who likes admiring himself, working out&bears the Shield of Mordor (the Tolkien estate didn't bother suing this penny awful) Mila meets up with Ator&his Asian sidekick Thong. Their adventures are complicated-they have to fight a spider-worshipping cult,as well as briefly confront the cannibalistic cave dwellers. There are samurai, medieval warriors, and yes,the cave dwellers. Don't bother pinning down the time period.
"Cave Dwellers" is laughably bad. Back during a hard time in my life,I found this movie comfort food. It's so bad it's great!
Customer Rating: Summary: The horror, the horror . . . Comment: I'm sorry, but this bargain basement Conan rip off was so bad that even the MST3K antics could not save it (they were the only reason for three stars instead of zero). I did get a laugh out of the bots costuming up like the idiots in the film. And also the "say something!" comments (as the actors consistently missed their cues). But this film was so bad -- the continuity, delivery of lines, ridiculous costumes. The whole thing was ridiculous. I can't imagine how it was ever released. (I also think the MST gang missed a chance for some great "Freddie Mercury" comparisons to that villian guy . . . the one that looked like Freddie Mercury). Again, my apologies MST, but I just can't rate this very highly. You gave it a noble try, but the movie itself stinks so bad it was just no fun suffering through it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Absolutely Hilarious Comment: This has got to be my favorite episode of MST3K ever. It's one of the few VHS tapes I actually saved because I find it just too darned funny to part with (plus, it's not avaliable on DVD apart from a $50ish set). A snake puppet, the Geometric Nucleus, and a hanglider figure prominently in the story's outcome.
"How much Keefe is in this movie?"
"Miles O'Keefe."
Customer Rating: Summary: Bullseye Comment: You don't come across gems like this everyday. A prize like this isn't found, you just have to let it come to you. Buried deep in my buddies recorded MST pile, he dusted this one off and unleashed it's potent cheese upon our poor unsuspecting selves. Everyone loves the hang-glider scene and for good reason. I love the fact that for a quick moment our hosts feign shock. They just laugh at it. It's not often that all they have to do is laugh in disbeleif. This also has my favorite all-time stinger...."Dong.....fish is ready." Kills me.
Customer Rating: Summary: One of the MST3K top ten funniest! Comment: It seems that some films were just made to be torn into by the citizens of the Satellite of Love. CAVE DWELLERS is beyond a doubt one of them. Basically, a poor man's Conan the Barbarian, CAVE DWELLERS has all the elements necessary for an MST3K roasting: bad acting, no editing, horrible pacing, cheap FX, and, above all, poor continuity directing which the crew aim in on at the end. There are fewer poorly made films, and fewer funnier episodes of MST3K!
