Customer Rating: Summary: Generally good performances, but something lacking Comment: The performances of this music, all of which is top-quality material, are generally quite good, and some are great - but something is missing. There is a presence and brilliance missing that these pieces need to shine. It may be the recording quality, the engineering, or maybe the conductor, but where the music should ring and blaze and knock your socks off, it doesn't. The brass and percussion sound weak and too far back. Overall, it is a bit too mellow, too recessed, too soft.
It isn't because of Symphony Hall in Boston - despite its rich acoustics, Arthur Fiedler made plenty of recordings here with this band, for RCA and Decca and Deutsche Grammophon, that are bright and snazzy and dazzling. In fact, John Williams has made several excellent recordings here that are impressive in their own right, notably for Philips. My guess is that Sony engineers miscalculated the space and got it wrong, or else Williams somehow miscalculated the dynamics needed for the recording. In any case, there are lots of recordings available of this music, including with the same orchestra and conductor, that surpass this one. Try the 1980's Philips/Polygram recordings by this orchestra.
Customer Rating: Summary: Should've listened to samples first Comment: I wanted a CD of rousing marches, but this doesn't sound like it could get anyone out of their seat.
Customer Rating: Summary: I Love A Parade review Comment: After being at a summer spectacular event where the fireworks were coordinated with upbeat "march" music, I set out to find a CD that contained similar songs. I found "I Love A Parade" to be the prefect solution. The Boston Pops are great to begin with and this collection of songs is no different! I have it in the CD player and have it playing in the background when we have BBQ's or dinner parties and people always ask where I got it! Bottom line, it's a fun, upbeat collection that reminds us of simpler times and what it means to be proud of our country!
Customer Rating: Summary: The Boston Pops does it again! Comment: If you like the sounds of American music at its best then this is the C.D.to own in your collection. The Boston Pops has 16 of the best march tunes around on the c.d. From 76 Trombones to the Liberty Bell March to The Stars and Strips Forever, this is a highly recommended C.D.! Enjoy!
Customer Rating: Summary: Great music Comment: If your looking for fun music to listen to to this is the cd to get. I play the trombone and its fun to listen to these great players.
