Editorial Reviews:

No question about it: Doom is one of the greatest games of all time. The blend of a simple, yet compelling mission, breakthrough 3-D interface, brilliant level and weapon design, and the effective use of fear made Doom an instant classic and launched a revolution in computer games. Born on the PC, this game has been ported to almost everything imaginable, and the PlayStation port is one of the best.

You play the part of a space marine who was stationed on a research station on the Martian moon, Phobos. Something went very wrong when the researchers opened an extradimensional portal. Now you're trapped far from home, grabbing guns and ammo to blast the demons. A one-man crusade, you shoot everything that moves--and, likewise, everything that moves tries to return the favor.

This was the game that launched the multiplayer craze on the PC, and the PlayStation version does its best to live up to Doom's reputation as the ultimate multiplayer deathmatch game. If you have two players, two PlayStations, and a link cable, you can enjoy some mad two-player mayhem.

A few words of caution: remember that Doom was the first wildly successful first-person shooter, and while its graphics were astounding for its era, it hasn't aged well. If you want the latest and greatest graphics, you'll be disappointed, but if you're into quality gaming and appreciate history, you'll still get a huge blast out of Doom. --John Cocking

Pros:

  • Lots of mayhem
  • Terror mounts as your ammo count drops
Cons:
  • Older graphics
  • Nothin' but violence
  • Sluggish when compared to the PC version

Summary: OMG!!!
Comment: This is my favorite game. I have played it over and over again. I love blowing demons up big time. If you are the movie DOOM fan and think this might be the same it isn't. XBox has the closest DOOM games in that perspective. I am old school w/ the PlayStation 1 my kids have all upgraded and I stayed w/ the PlayStation because I can not depart from this game. If you get this game and love it then you will have to get Space Invaders for the PlayStation. It is nothing like the old one from Atari it is almost as good as my DOOM.

Summary: this game was great
Comment: doom for playstation is amazing, so good that i am purchasing it for the second time. it is revolutionary, a great advancement in graphics from its father game: wolf3d(another must have), the start of what is known today as "the first person shooter". while it originally was released on pc, and i used to own it on pc, both are good, but i prefer the ps1 version. it is more than one game in one so theres no switching discs. your playstation is not going to get a virus and crash, so you will always have the game(so long as you take care of the disc), and it runs quickly because playstations do not have to compete with other programs. the real bonus here though is the combination of doom 1, ultimate doom(an expansion pack), and doom 2. plus the fact of improved graphics from the very first release of doom, all the classic weapons and monsters, and a roiling good time!

Summary: krap-PS1 never had any good FPS games!
Comment: DOOM was much better on Nintendo 64!-PS1 didn`t have FPS in their "Talent" genre-N64 did.
The Three games machines that had the best FPS games genre as a "talent" was:
PC
NINTENDO 64
XBOX
DOOM was ok on PS1 but not a good.

Summary: Now this is where the legend all began.
Comment: Doom and Quake have been two of the most incredible FPS series ever. Along with Turok and Half-Life, and even Medal of Honor, Doom is still one of my favorites. I don't even own it anymore, and last time I played it I was about six. While you were all watching Barney the dinosour, my dad and I were blasting demons with rocket launchers and taking out whole armies with a shotgun. I think Doom 3 is really just a remake of Doom 1, but if I had to choose between the two, I'd likely choose this one. Doom 3 is awesome and VERY addictive, but it's so realistic it tends to often freeze up a lot, and don't even get me started on Quake 4... But anyway, Doom was probably the first FPS game I ever played, although with my age, I wasn't really good at it at first. But if I were to play it now, I'd probably be halfway through the game in one day. I never even played Doom II, though my dad did show me the first level of it a long time ago. I wish ID would come out with another game like this, with a simpler story, and gameplay that's simple like this. I miss these old games a great deal, and not owning Doom anymore is beginning to hurt my brain. There's just no originality anymore with anything nowadays, it seems like too many things are stereotypical, or just plain typical. Old games are the best, and we need to make sure we get all the classic old games like this while we can, because they won't be there forever.

Summary: One of the All Time Best
Comment: Doom, Grand Theft Auto 3, Final Fantasy 7, Wolfenstein 3D, Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid there are my favotite games of all time. Doom is definately a classic, the first time I played it on the computer, I was hooked. There's no telling how many hours I spent on this. As of many, I bought Doom the first day it came out on Playstation years ago. So too all you Halo players that have no clue what Doom is about, everytime you play Halo keep in mind that if Doom never existed most likely Halo wouldn't exist. The whole Doom series is definately worth owning. The Graphics and sounds are now way out of date but at the time they were amazing. This has some of the most complex levels imaginable, it'll keep you entertained for hours. So many games today are like so many other games. The ones that are special are the ones that stand out. This game took a risk to be different, and now it stands as being one of the best games ever created.
