The software contains a multitude of legal documents, displaying a window with a list of documents on the left and a description of the selected document on the right. The descriptions include the reason(s) for use, information you may need to complete the form, and reasons why you might need to update such a document. If you choose to create a document, the program provides a wizard to guide you through the first steps. When the document is complete, you can read it online or print out a copy, showing the information you added to the template document.
There are 14 categories of documents that run the gamut from health and medical to sales and leasing. A special module for estate planning takes you step by step through the process, using a wizard that collects all the information required for most estate planning.
In our testing, we found the Legal Search and Law Dictionary components of the product to be the least useful. The Legal Search enables you to look up information on a topic and then provides the information divided into three categories: Documents, References, and Definitions. To our annoyance, the references frequently require you to purchase access to the information.
Quicken Family Lawyer's strength is helping you create straightforward legal documents and answering typical legal questions. In a pleasant and necessary touch, it does warn you when it judges your legal situation to be better served by contacting a legal professional.
