Customer Rating: Summary: A true gem that married quality story, voice acting and action adventure that is unique on the entire playstation platform Comment: Looking back on the past 12 years there have been numerous "sequels" to the Blood Omen game. Unfortunately none of these sequels follow the formula of the original great. They either tried to be more like Tomb Raider or Devil May Cry and missed the point entirely.
Lets take another look
Good
- progressive action adventure semi linear gameplay. Ala Zelda, find a semi secret, unlock a spell/weapon/armor/item, later use that newly found ability to open/explore more areas
- incredible voice acting for the entire game
- top down hack and slash + spells, items, puzzles, traps
- drain blood from victims without having to bite them first ;)
- deep gameplay, switch weapons or spells depending on your circumstances
- 100 in game secrets
- engrossing mature storyline
- challenge in terms of combat and puzzles
- change forms at will, become mist, a wolf, a human!
Bad
- Horrible loading times on PS1 version
- Low res graphics
- confusing menu system
- only 1 spell/ability at a time, must go to loading screens to switch
- confusing map system
- difficult to pick up and play if you are not actively tracking your quest progress
- some puzzles are not solvable until you go back and find previous items/abilities in other areas
I am still playing this game today, I keep coming back as the core gameplay and story are more interesting and varied than 95% of action adventure games released in next gen.
Customer Rating: Summary: Classica hack and slash Comment: Blood Omen is the game that started the all. The Legacy of Kain series has now spawned four following games, the last one 'Defiance' on the Xbox.
Blood Omen is a classic overhead view hack n' slash with some excellent, and for the time, innovative features such as morphing into bat and wolf form which allows the player to access different areas of Nosgoth.
The storyline is deep and racked with intrigued and deceit.
What really shines in this game is the voice acting. Seldom have I witnessed a game where the voice actors do such a phenomenal job.
For younger players which are used now to the glitz of HD games and incredible physics this game might be a bit dated.
For those of us that started gaming in the late 80's and early 90's this will be greatly appreciated.
Customer Rating: Summary: blood omen is truly the best Comment: yes i understand that it was made in 1996 and that it has bad graphics but thats how most games were back then. If you truly love the LOK series then this is your best bet. the story line in this game is so widespread and long and it makes you want to keep playing. But yes the graphics arent the best but they're good enough for any LOK fan.
Customer Rating: Summary: Everyone should Own this JEWEL!!! Comment: Blood Omen 1 is the best out of all the LOK series, save that of Defiance... I was lil traumatized by the ending of Defiance... Anyways, the graphics are excellet, and if any dumb kids argue with me, I will tell them go straight to their mummies and play with there 1000 polygone count of the newer PS3 mustache of a mario wannabe... NO! Blood Omen one is the shizzle of my missle!!! I rant for one reason and one reason alone! REDEMPTION!!! Thanks to fekking Anne Rice, everyone thinks Vampires are sexy and seductive! NEIN fuer der Koenig- KAIN!!! He is the ultimate antihero! He is the greatest Vampire Story I ever saw in my life! If Anne Rice where to write about Vampires in this millenium, they would be ugly and dark, like KAIN! I hate pantywaste vamps! At least Kain has no problems with his looks! And he is the best thing to jump onto Crystal Dynamics and Eidos's lap!
Period!
I am Outtie
Hail Kain!
