Customer Rating: Summary: Works as promised Comment: This product works very well. After reading reviews, I decided on the 80 watt vs a smaller model, because our yard sits in the middle of 60 acres of pastureland. Grasshoppers have a hard time getting into the middle, although very attracted to it. But if they make their way in, they do fry! Has really reduced the insect population in the evenings.
Customer Rating: Summary: Very well worth the price; works like a charm Comment: This zapper is incredible. I had some trepidation because I read zappers aren't very effective with regard to mosquitos but this one certainly is. It kills hundreds of bugs each night and they drop effortlessly through the bottom. A well-made, well-designed product that gets results.
Customer Rating: Summary: Flowtron and Stinger electronic Insect Killers Comment: I live on an island in a Louisiana Lake. From sundown to about 10:30 PM, the mosquitoes are "horrendous". I usually have 4 "bug lights" going at once. They are all Flowtrons, due to the better grid system. I have tried Stingers, but the grids "stop up" due to the bugs not falling free from the grid.
Over the past 20 years, I have bought about 15 "bug lights". Sears( probably made by Flowtron), Stinger, and Flowtron. The Sears and Flowtron are the best, due to the grid system. I have one Sears light that after 10 yrs is still going strong, it really "zaps" the bugs and NEVER chokes down. The transformer puts out 5600 volts and 9 ma. Most bug lights now days only put out around 4000 volts.
Flowtron's main problem is the weak transformer, it is weak in that it does not have a high enough voltage, and it "burns out" easily. I actually buy Stingers to take the transformers out and put them in my Flowtrons. In the past, you could get parts (transformers) from Sears, but, they do not sell the zappers any more. I can not find a source for the 5600 volt transformer either.
Anyway, Flowtron, with weak transformer, is still the best we have...
Customer Rating: Summary: flowtron great stinger awful Comment: I had a flowtron many years ago. When the bulb burned out after at least five years of use, I had difficulty finding replacement bulbs and could not find a way to even get the bulbs out I think it was an older model that needed to be taken apart. So I unfortunately bought the stingers because they were at the local hardware store at the end of last year. I stored them in the garage through the winter. When I put new bulbs in this spring neither worked. I needed these!!! and bought two more this spring. One still works but is clogged every couple of days. And I have to replace bulbs every month. The other no longer works. They just hang in rather protected areas. What is with the stingers????
Customer Rating: Summary: I'm impressed Comment: I did my homework before I purchased the Flowtron, looking into devices that used propane which is thought to generate the "ultimate lure". While these expensive units seem like the ideal solution reading reviews on these killing machines changed my mind. First off, while they are very effective when new, they don't stay that way and don't seem to hold up, and for $500 a pop they should have a long life. But that is only the beginning, with the high cost of propane today combined with an intensive maintance factor I settled on the Flowtron. It is extreemly effective and so far the only negative is the hundreds of dead insects that have to be cleaned every day. I would highly recommend the 80 watt model and I just leave it on all the time. Best of all I can now eat outdoors on my patio without being bothered by the flying pests.
