Comment: This thermometer is excellent, especially at it's very low price. I know some others are complaining that 3-5 seconds is not instant.. but, what about instant oatmeal? That takes 3-5 minutes. Instant just means you will get the temp within a few seconds rather than a few minutes. Works great, don't get it wet.

Summary: Best amazon purchase I ever made
Comment: I use this all the time, normally forget to turn it off, and still have not even used up the 1st battery. It came with an extra. I never had good luck with instant thermometers before, and the kind you leave in get dirty and unreadable. I admit, I have never dropped it in water, but I have had no trouble and have had it for 2 years.

Summary: Accurate but a display issue.
Comment: Very accurate thermometer. However I do not think it has an automatic cut off regarding power. Mine is now useless as far as display, I think the battery has gone dead. If a calculator has an automatic turn off mechanism, why not this?

Comment: Instant is not quite accurate, but if your willing to wait 3-5 second, it will give you a reading. I checked it against the tap water (hot & cold) and it appeared to be accurate. Postive features:
* Provided 2 batteries in the package
* Quick reaction time to final temp
* Was able to fit the second battery inside the case
* The protective sleeve doubles as a holder (holes in the side take the probe so holde is perpendicular to the probe)Overall, slick, fast, good price.
Down side, I thought instant read meant instant read, to me that is 1 second or less. Oh well.
