All kitchen and sporting knives, whether professional quality or inexpensive, need a blade tune-up now and then. This electric sharpener produces razor-sharp edges using the same rapidly rotating Sapphirite grinding wheels used by professional shops. A two-stage system allows knives to be ground and sharpened on the Stage 1 half of the machine, and then honed on the Stage 2 half. Blade guides hold the knife at the ideal sharpening angle for each side of the blade, as it is drawn slowly towards the user and kept parallel to the countertop. The sharpener is suitable for knives made of alloy, carbon, or stainless steel; it is perfectly normal for sparks to fly when knives of high carbon steel come in contact with the Sapphirite wheels. Non-electric serrated knives that are only serrated on one side can also be sharpened with this machine. Three suction cups on the bottom hold the sharpener securely on a table or countertop, and two receptacles underneath catch metal filings for disposal. The sharpener measures 8-1/4 by 5-3/4 by 4 inches, and is covered by a two-year warranty against defects. --Ann Bieri

Summary: Great product for the price!
Comment: I was skeptical about this item and the results definitely proved me wrong. The directions state that you need to glide your knives in a single direction, once on the left inserts then you move to the right, and voila! Your knives are sharp again! No harsh pulling or pressing. The only thing that's lacking in this product is that it doesn't work with serrated knives or shears; therefore, if you want a sharpener that takes care of those types of knives, I'd purchase another product. Most of my knives are straight edged so this works well for me.

Comment: This sharpener is very quick and convenient to use. However, the stones are very course and if your not carefull youll take more metal off the blade than is necessary. Ive started using the second stage only and completely bypass the first stage because its to course.

Comment: You know your knives are getting dull and then you run them through this very nice sharpener - -WOW! They are like new again! A sharp knife is the best tool you can have in the kitchen. Great price also!

Comment: My knives are as sharp as the day I bought them. I love this sharpener. One caution-do not sharpen scissors. I ruined the pair that came with my knife set.

Comment: It works very well. The directions are clear. It takes a couple of tries to get good at it. The key is slowly and smoothly draw the knife through the sharpener without applying pressure. Repeat until desired sharpness has been achieved. I think it is great.
