Editorial Reviews:

The four-part OAV Doomed Megalopolis (1991) is more notable for its misogynistic violence than for its coherent storytelling or skillful animation. In 1908 the ghost-demon-sorcerer Kato tries to resurrect Masakado, a historical figure who has become the unofficial guardian deity of Tokyo, by offering Yukari as a human sacrifice. Masakado rejects Kato's offering, but the evil sorcerer keeps trying, tormenting Yukari and her daughter, Yukiko (whose father is Yukari's brother Tatsumi). Kato causes the devastating 1923 Tokyo earthquake at the end of episode 2, after which the plot simply collapses. Violent imagery--collapsing buildings, the repeated rape and torture of Yukari--alternate with stretches of leaden dialogue, long Morris-the-Explainer scenes, and pretentious narration. The animation is crude at best: the characters change appearance from scene to scene, and the artists try unsuccessfully to draw the human figure from weird angles. The most striking feature of this jejune gorefest is designer Masayuki's flamboyantly bizarre use of color. (Rated 17 and older, but unsuitable for viewers under 18: graphic violence, violence against women, rape, incest, nudity, grotesque imagery, profanity, tobacco use) --Charles Solomon

Summary: If you don't watch this your doomed
Comment: Since animation can rarely shock, Doomed Megalopolis wisely chooses the alternate Horror route: it disturbs. Taking a cue from the The Exorcist, the story revolves mostly around Kato's repented efforts to pocesses Yukari and later her daughter Yukiko (who may or may not be the offspring of Kato himself). He is temporarily successful each time; head-spinning and vomiting up strange phallic creatures are only some of the joys Yukari experiences time and again, and she is quickly reduced to a raving madwoman.

Summary: Doomed Megatrashis
Comment: Doomed Megalopis is about a sorcerer who torments a young girl and her mother to somehow rule tokyo. The story captures you in the beginning, but after disk 2 the plot goes to hell with gasoline drawers on. Decent animation, incest, people puking up weird things, corny death scenes and a bulls*** ending all plague this. If your looking for something good stay away from this, trust me. This is being sold brand new for at least $0.99. That should tell you something. Believe me, the ones giving this 5 and 4 stars are trying to sell this. It's so bad I can't sell it for $2.00. Somebody please relieve me of this.

If you are into psychic or supernatural elements or even paganism, this is a good movie for you to watch because you will understand why things happen such as why the magic works in different ways and stuff.

Summary: 20 some dollars = 4 hours of greatness
Comment: Lots of people dont seem to really like this film, Im not sure why, it has the typical amount of violence and strangeness that one would expect from most anime films. Who knows?

Anyways, for all of you graphic freaks out there, this movie will not sit well with you. As it is not up to todays standards, because it was released in the early 90's. However for those of us who arent graphic freaks, the graphics are still good regardless.

The story of this movie, revolves around a man hellbent on destroying Tokyo. This man is Kato Yasunari, and he isnt your every day Joe. He wields awesome power, at one point pulling the Moon into the Earth. To stop his crusade of destruction are an assortment of individuals, a scientist, a college student, a psychic, and most importantly a temple maiden who isnt all she appears to be. The charcters are all interesting in their own ways, and stay a large part of the story throughout the movie.

There are really two parts to the story, Kato, and the family he is using in his evil schemes. This family is really screwed up thanks to the older brother, who is a man obsessed with work and social status. You will not like the borther, as he is a very bad person. The sister is insane thanks to her brother and the demon Kato, who each in some way traumatize her. Later in the movie a focus is also placed on the daughter of the sister, who possess some magical power, and who is a tool of Kato.

This is a great story as far as anime standards go, and the ending involving Kato and the temple maiden is excellent.

Warning: This movie is definitely not for children.

Summary: WHAT A JOKE, DON'T BUY THIS
Comment: No Japanese audio Track, Horrible Dub, Lame Plot, boring Animation, dumb story line, bad ending. This has got to be the worst anime I have ever scene since Ninja Resurrection and Kimera. If you love Ninja Scroll and Dragon Ball Z, then you are going to hate this!!!
