Bernard Slade's smart, funny, and touching play about an adulterous couple who meet one weekend a year for 26 years is nicely adapted for the screen by Robert Mulligan (To Kill a Mockingbird) in this 1978 film. The two-person story stars Alan Alda and Ellen Burstyn, both of whom are outstanding at conveying a rainbow of emotions over a quarter-century as life gives and takes away, and the world convulses with change. Comment: We went to Mendocino for our honeymoon and everyone told us to watch this movie. While a movie about cheating on your spouse doesn't seem like a great idea and there really wasn't that much of the town shown in the movie it was still a really good movie.
