The solid brass and convex glass housing encloses a carefully calibrated dial and bimetallic mechanism that are built to endure. Summary: World's best outdoor thermometer
Comment: I recently purchased this thermometer to give to a friend and did so based on my first hand experience. This thermometer is an excellent example of something that is beautiful built in terms of form and function. It's simplicity gives it a classic look. It ages beautifully and one never has to worry about any finish giving out. The first five years of its life were spent outdoors on a deck in Vermont. It has seen just about every conceivable weather imaginable. Thirty below temps, driving snow, rain, freezing rain and baking summer sun to name a few. To put it simply, it lived in a world of constant abuse and always performed perfectly. Every time I've checked its calibration, it's been dead on. I image I'll have this thermometer for the rest of my life unless I lose it somehow. I suppose its only downsides are that it reads inaccurately when direct sunlight hits the brass and the numbers aren't big enough to see from far away. Both of these shortcomings can be easily dealt with, however.

Summary: Works Fine .... If You Don't Mind Squinting!
Comment: This thermometer is well made and looks good. It's smaller than I had imagined. You'll have to squint to see the numbers and dial location if you view it from more than a couple feet away.

Summary: Attractive and Classy
Comment: This thermometer is just what I wanted. Fixed to the front of our Long Island farm ranch, it looks rustic and classy. Plus the quality is outstanding, and hanging it was a 5 minute job. Now we check the temperature constantly because it is so easy to read and beautiful to look at. Highly recommend.
