Customer Rating: Summary: Is it worth it? Comment: It has to be imagined that most would buy this kit for the power adaptor that Yamaha decided to not include with the Yamaha YPG-235 76-key Portable Keyboard. Considering that this kit costs about $30 and the Yamaha PA5D Power Adaptor, if one were to purchase it separately, costs about $18, one must decide whether the other contents of the kit are worth the $12 spread. First, then, one should look at what else this kit offers: a Yamaha DVD, headphones, sustain pedal and two year parts and labor extended warranty. The Yamaha DVD is really nothing more than Yamaha's attempt to get the owner to purchase a few more products and the headphones are about the quality one would expect to get free while traveling on some airlines. So these should probably be removed from the equation, leaving the prospective buyer to decide if the sustain pedal and extended warranty are worth twelve dollars. The sustain pedal included in this kit could not be of a simpler design or poorer quality and still be functional; however, amazingly, it works (probably not for long). This leaves the extended warranty to pick up the price differential slack. The warranty that accompanies the purchase of a YPG-235 covers one year parts and 90 days labor, while the extended warranty covers two years parts and labor. All of this being considered; the extended warranty and the, quite probably limited use, sustain pedal might actually be worth the extra twelve dollars. However, if one does not believe in extended warranties and plans to take full advantage of their sustain pedal's capabilities it might not really be worth it. It is not a bad deal, but Yamaha makes it seem as if this kit actually offers the buyer more than they really get. In other words, proceed with caution and consider the opportunity cost involved in such a purchase versus the alternative.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not such a great deal Comment: Bought this for a Yamaha YPG-225 portable piano. The one good feature of the kit is the Yamaha PD5 power supply which is remarkably heavy for its small size and has a 6' foot cord from the transformer to wall socket and another thinner 6' foot cord from the transformer to the piano for a total of 12 feet - something you will appreciate.
The foot switch for sustain is a cheaply made plastic switch; you can buy a much better Yamaha foot peddle for about $30. The Koss headphones sound okay but are now somewhat broken after one day because of the cheap plastic headband.
The video will show you how to hook up your power supply, how to use the headphones and foot switch - totally useless with no instructional value. It will not show you how to navigate or operate you keyboard.
The software is a collection of very old shareware of dubious value with "lite" versions that require purchase for the "full feature" version. None where Yamaha products.
This entire package is a real disappointment save for the power supply. The kit is obviously very old judging by its outdated software package. My recommendation is to buy the power supply and a better foot peddle seperately.
