Initially, fitness and competitive swimmers were using long fins as a training aids. Because the center of effort is forward of the foot, this may cause early fatigue or cramping and encourage a "pedaling" kicking motion, different than that used in a flutter kick. The concept of the short fin was conceived to bring the center of effort back to the foot, and increase leg strength and "muscle memory" while maintaining an elevated heart rate with a kicking motion specific to the flutter kick. Many of the training fins in use today are simply a standard dive fin that has been cut off, leaving a stiff, inflexible blade. Here are the features and advantages of the Hydro's Training Fins:The V channell edge and greater blade width add back the surface area and resistance lost in shortening the fin, while keeping the center of effort close to the foot. The rubber composition is of the highest quality material and is soft, flexible, and comfortable. The colors are permanent and will not mar decks or pool surfaces. The patented V channel provides even thrust in both directions. The V channel also creates a noticeable "grip" on the water maximizing kick drills results. The foot pocket design allows minimal protrusion of the toes. We have had no failures reported at the toe pocket or heel in two and a half years of team use.

Customer Rating: Summary: Hydro Training Fins Comment: These fins are comfortable, and seem to be quite effective. I had already used this type of fin when working out at a local pool, so I knew I liked them before I purchased them. As with all fins, you should probably try a few kinds on before you buy any. Each person's feet are different, and different fins will work better for different people. Customer Rating: Summary: Great fin for lake swimming! Comment: I've been using the long scuba style fins while swimming in lakes for the past 26 years. I just purchased the Hydro Training Fins a month ago and I much prefer the Hydro Fins feel and action in the water when compared to my old long fins. The Hydro Fins work my upper legs better than did the longer fins. I don't notice any lower leg strain while using the Hydro Fins that I used to encounter with the long fins. Delivery of Hydro Fins were right on schedule. Just two nit-piks, I ordered the Black w/Gold colored fins but I received the Blue w/Yellow fins instead. Also, the Yellow finish on the fins look as if it was painted on by a preschooler. These issues do not hinder the performance of these great fins in any way therefore I highly recommend them to anyone who is interested in using the Hydro Training Fins for lake swimming. Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent flippers Comment: I Got exactly what I order and they are much better than regular long fins for swim technique practice. Customer Rating: Summary: Fintastic! Comment: These really are great fins for swimming laps, especially if, like me, you swim more than just the crawl. The V-channels on the sides really grab the water; I was surprised at just how diffrent it is from using the Zoomer fins I had been using for about 3 years. For lack of a better word, the "toe box" narrows down quite severely, and I had to cut it back just to able to wear the fins for an entre workout, but since then, it's been smooth sailing. (I wear size 13 shoes.) Highly recommended. Customer Rating: Summary: Great addition to a workout Comment: great all around workout fins. certainly helps to build speed & strengthen legs. recommend!
