Spotlight customer reviews:
Customer Rating: Summary: Good buy * Comment: Used it on couple of camping trips, and works good. One negative, can get little heavy after loading the batteries. So if hanging, might want to give extra support. Good amount of illumination. Customer Rating: Summary: One of the better battery operated lanterns available... Comment: I like the lantern - it is very bright when needed, the nightlight is handy, and it doesn't suck down batteries. The construction is also quite nice, though I would prefer it be all metal. Customer Rating: Summary: An ideal light for indoors when the power goes out Comment: The Northstar lantern is a perfect choice to have as a serious emergency light when the power goes out. Since it's battery operated, there are no harmful fumes. And the fluorescent tube, powered by 8 D-cells, puts out enough light to illuminate an entire room. I haven't run it down yet, but it will go for hours on the brightest setting and even longer on the lower setting. You could buy a serious LED unit that would burn much longer, but you'll pay much more. This light is well made and durable, has a wide base that makes it stable, and a large metal carrying handle. A metal cage protects the plastic globe (no heat, so no need for glass).
This would also be a safe in-tent light for camping, but it's far too large and heavy for carrying very far. For extended outdoor use, the old liquid fuel Coleman would be both brighter and cheaper to use, as would the propane models.
I bought mine as the main emergency light for home and it is ideal for that purpose. Customer Rating: Summary: great battery powered lantern Comment: This will be our primary emergency light and is bright enough for an entire room. First Energy, our electricity supplier is pretty unreliable so we will be using it often. Customer Rating: Summary: Lantern Review. Comment: This lantern is very good. It is nice when power is off or you need light and not fumes from gas lights.
I know we are going to enjoy it. Just don't know how long the batterys will last?
