A Mango is a sweet, delicious fruit. It can be difficult to peel and slice, however. Traditionally cooks instruct people that the following steps should be followed to open a Mango - Cut off the stem of the mango; Hold the fruit upright, cupping it in the palm of your hand; With the other hand, use a potato peeler or a paring knife to cut away the peel, following the curves of the fruit; Lay the fruit on its flat end and slice lengthwise, working around the flat seed in the middle. Cut the fruit into thin slices as desired.; Stand the mango upright or otherwise move around to carve away the remaining flesh surrounding the seed. OR you can use the Oxo Good Grips Mango Splitter.

Customer Rating: Summary: It doesn't work Comment: This tool doesn't work. It mashes the fruit instead of cutting it. If the mango was able to stand up to this cutter, it would be too green to eat. Save your money and use a sharp knife.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good mango slicer Comment: I like this product alot. It makes mango slicing easy. I've used it quite a few times since I got it. For smaller mangoes, it leaves more fruit on the seed. In the America's test kitchen review they said they didn't run into a mango large or small that they couldn't cut but I just ran into a mango I had trouble slicing at all with the slicer. Its seed was tilted and I couldn't quite get it to cut. But on the whole, it's worked great. Also I use it after I peel the mango and slice a flat bottom. I've eaten more mangoes this summer than ever before because I like using the slicer and I love mangoes.
Customer Rating: Summary: What a gem Comment: My mango experiences in the past have not been good. The liitle buggers are hard to hang onto, especially after the first slice. I never seem to make cuts in the fruit in the correct place to get the most fruit but without the pit. Consequently, I rarely bought mangos. I recently bought the mango splitter and had no problems with the mango. What a gem.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good idea, not a great tool. Comment: Gave this a try last time I made mango salsa...it's simple enough, but it takes longer to line up the tool and push down than to make 2 cuts with a chef's knife.
In theory, the contoured blade saves more flesh off the edges of the pit; depending on the size/shape of each pit and the ripeness of the fruit, though, the tool leaves too much behind on the sides of the pit, and gives the split halves a ragged, concave shape.
A sharp chef's knife is a faster, neater tool for mangos--and takes up less space in the drawer.
Customer Rating: Summary: It Works! Comment: Once you figure out how to use it, this product does really work! The first couple of times I tried it, it didn't go well. The mangos were pretty ripe, I had to push hard, the blade didn't cut through the skin and it made an awful mushy mess. After thinking about it, I did the following: first I cut a bit off the bottom of the mango to ensure that it would sit flat on the cutting board. Then I pushed down as instructed. As with the first couple of times, the blade didn't cut through the skin due to ripeness. This time however, when the mango splitter blade didn't cut throught the mango skin, I stopped. I then took a sharp knife and cut the skin where the blade made an impression. After making the cut, I lined up the splitter to match the cut, pushed, and it cut perfectly. I tried with another mango that wasn't as ripe, and it worked without me having to precut the skin.
