Access Software brings you a computer golf simulation of Presidential proportions - Congressional Country Club of Bethesda, Maryland. Just outside Washington, D.C., this storied course had its beginnings in the early 1920s. On its opening day in 1924, Congressional boasted the attendance of President Calvin Coolidge, many diplomats, and an estimated 10,000 on-lookers. Even the laying of the cornerstone included the involvement of President Hoover in 1923.
This superbly challenging course has provided a focus for major tournament golf in the nation's capital, having hosted four national championships and four Kemper Opens.
In 1961, Robert Trent Jones was called upon to redesign Congressional in prepartation for the 1964 U.S. Open, and in 1990 his son, Rees Jones, added some finishing touches. This father/son combination, known for attention to detail, has produced a stunning championship layout. This site of the 1997 U.S. Open, features the Blue Course - 7,219 yards of Maryland charm.
