Customer Rating: Summary: More bars? yes. Better quality signal? no. Comment: After setting this up per the instructions, I now receive full bars anywhere inside my apartment. However, this does NOT translate to any better signal quality to my phone. I have AT&T service in Chicago, which is utilizing the ~ 850MHz range. I bought the 800MHz model.
Customer Rating: Summary: Works Extremely Well Comment: I had a weak signal and my service provider broadcasts at 1900 Mhz and 800 Mhz in my area. Initially, I purchased the 1900 Mhz YX-500-PCS. However, the 1900 Mhz signal was not getting to my house because higher frequency signals are not as robust as low frequency signals. I exchanged the YX-500-PCS for the YX-500-CEL that operates in the 800 Mhz range, and the "CEL" version did an excellent job of solving my problem.
Where before we had a very poor signal on the first floor of our house, we now get a full-strength signal within about five feet of the base unit and a very good signal within about 25 feet of the base unit. The unit basically broadcasts on one floor but does seem to provide some additional strength on our second floor.
Note that antenna placement is key, particularly where the terrain is not flat. We experimented with several locations. Also, the antenna fits snugly into the wide end of gray three-quarter inch PVC electrical conduit if you want to run the coax through the conduit and protect the connections of an antenna set-up that is outside and grounded. In our installation, the conduit is secured to the side of our house and extends above the roof. An LB or "T" access fitting can be used to protect the coax grounding connector. I used the LB fitting along with a right angle coax connector that was connected to the grounding connector and then used "Gorilla Tape" to seal the LB fitting where the coax and ground wire exit. I'll see how the tape works.
Customer Rating: Summary: I'm very pleased with this purchase Comment: The reviews I read prior to making this purchase really helped me make my decision. That being said it's only right to make a post about my experience.
Outside of my home my cell signal varies from 2 to 4 bars, usually 4; but, inside my home it's 0 to 2. Now I have 2 to 4 bars throughout most of the home, and usually 3 to 4 most of the time.
My advice would be to read all of the installation instructions! If you do not set up the the anntenna and base unit correctly it will not give you the improvement you need.
I'm recommending this product to all of my friends with ATT&T wireless in my area.
Customer Rating: Summary: YX500 Cell Phone booster Comment: Installation of the 800MHz YX500 was not difficult and in my case I was able to install the antenna in my attic and received a good signal strength (three bars) on the first and second floor. I installed the main unit on the second floor. I did test the antenna out doors on the roof but the signal was the same as it was in my attic. The booster actually boosts the signal during a call (four full bars). If you have a lot of trees in your yard then you need to install the antenna outside on the roof.
Customer Rating: Summary: wireless repeater Comment: The 800mhz unit did not work for me, but technical support was very helpfull. It was determined my phone was operating on PCS so I elected to up-grade to the dual band unit so everyones cellphone (both frequencies) would work in my house. Returned my unit and promptly got the dual band in the return mail. The installation was easy, and the unit works great. I have already recommended the unit to my brother.
