Customer Rating: Summary: Below average out of the box, but good with modifications. Comment: These earphones are tuned too much toward the high end. In other words, too much treble, not enough bass. A workaround is the EQ setting on your iPod. When set to "Small Speakers," these earphones sound quite good, since that setting effectively reduces the highs and boosts the lows. "Treble Reducer" was the next best setting. But that's neither here nor there. These earphones should perform well at the normal setting, especially at this price point.
Initially, I thought it might be a problem with fit. All the included eartips were too large for me, and if you don't get these buds placed snug inside your ears, they will sound tinny. But I found another workaround. I discovered the smaller eartips from my Maximo 490 earphones fit the Metros, so I ordered some replacement tips off eBay. With the smaller tips, I get a nice, snug fit, but the treble-heavy sound quality persists when set to "normal" EQ mode. I noticed another reviewer found all the eartips too small, so I guess you can't please everybody. But earphones at this price point should have more fit options.
Customer Rating: Summary: Terrible for such expensive headphones Comment: I paid $60 for these and have had them maybe 3 months. At first i liked them, the sound quality was always just okay. There is little to no low end on these things but im not a bass head so that was okay. Then they started to slip out of my ears more and more. Next, the left bud got really faint, so much so you could barely hear it unless you cranked the volume would make the right one blare into your ear. Not good. The cord is also very stiff and the buds(phones themselves) are quite heavy. I just purchased the Sony MDR EX-75 earbuds for half that price and the sound quality is amazing. Much better bass, and great stereo effect that makes you feel immersed in the music, not distant like another reviewer said of the metro 2s. Save yourself some money and just buy some Sony ex75's. You'll be much happier. The only thing nice about the metro 2's is the small leather velcro case.
Customer Rating: Summary: NOT what I expected. Comment: With all the hype surrounding Ultimate's earbuds, I couldn't wait to get a pair of the Metros and try them out with my new iPod Touch. Once they came, I couldn't wait to return them. I should have heeded an earlier review noting the "tinny" quality of the Metros. They are indeed tinny, with no strong "fullness" to create a sense of being immersed in the music - instead you seem to be strangely detached from the music like you're listening to it through a tin can at the end of a string. Seriously... the stock earbuds that come with all iPods provide a far more satisfying musical experience. Save your money. Perhaps the more expensive Ultimates with more than one driver will perform better, but the Metros are thoroughly expendable.
Customer Rating: Summary: Poor fit...always drop out... Comment: They just drop out all the time from the ears.
Totally unusable when standing (walking, etc..)
Moreover I had two times such an ear irritation caused by these earplugs, that I had to go to doctor and take drugs (ok,ok, i didn't disinfected them, that was also probably the cause). When this happend me for a second time (even after desinfection), i said, ok, i will never use them.
I have to say, that when I holded them in my ears, they have TERRIFIC SOUND (better than sure e2c). What a pity, that they don't fit me.
Overally: I do not recommend to purchase it without trying out them first in a studio.
p.s.: i had no similiar problems with shure e2c, probably because they had a soft fit).
UPDATE: i just realized that one of the speakers is not working. just after less then one years?! i didn't even use these and always kept the cable properly! definitely do not recommed these one
Customer Rating: Summary: Disappointing Comment: Got these as a replacement for the Sony Fontopias (when the left earbud broke on my third pair of Fontopias in a year, I've decided to move up to bigger and better). Was initially pleased with the sound isolation and the audio quality. Then the problems started to pile on: the earbuds won't stay on unless you are sitting perfectly still and not moving your head. I had to hold them in my ears at the gym! Whenever the cord bounces off your body, you hear it over the music, like a hollow noise. The earbud covers started to come lose and come off the drivers, which had me in a constant state of paranoia of losing them. The very stiff cord makes it impossible to keep the earbuds in your ears, they get yanked out every time you turn your head. The cord also does not lie flat against your body, which makes it easier for others to accidentally yank the buds out when they walk past you. Long story short - I seem to have lost them on a recent trip, and I am not getting a replacement pair.
