Summary: Not as useful as reviews claim
Comment: This company(Olympus) cheats customers by luring them to believe that VN4100 is the same as VN4100PC.The difference lies in the computer connectivity.This Voice recorder which bears the VN4100 does not have USB Port and thus CANNOT do a file transfer to the computer.So the question of email sending of voice files is impossible.
Also, the battery functionality is not good.The moment the hold button is on and the battery is replaced the machine crashes and becomes useless.
The design is sleek but it has not substance.

Summary: Exactly what I wanted
Comment: I purchased this for my husband. He was never in a position to write something down when it came to mind. This is a basic recorder but does exactly what I thought it would. You just grab it and put your thoughts on it. Very clear when you play it back. Records well in fairly noisy conditions. Very light weight and no bigger than a cell phone. It fits very well in his pocket. If you need something to put reminders, lists, or anything on, this is great. And the price can't be beat either!

Summary: Perfect little helper for my middle grade child
Comment: A teacher recommended I purchase a recorder for my son to assist in his writings by helping get his thoughts in order, as he is good verbally, but his writing comes across as jumbled up. He is all too excited about his ability to bloviate with the recorder which has helped his writing tremendously, especially since it is so easy to use.

Summary: Satisfied, but be careful when you change batteries
Comment: The VN4100 is an excellent handheld digital audio recorder. I'm very satisfied. HOWEVER, when you change out the batteries, be sure the HOLD switch on the left side of the unit is in the HOLD position. I changed out batteries with the HOLD switch in the ON position, and it killed the unit. Still, it suits my needs, so I got another. Just be careful changing batteries.
