Editorial Reviews:

The EP5632 is a 5.8 GHz expandable Bluetooth enabled cordless telephone with answering system and dial-in-base speakerphone.

Summary: Overall happy with phone
Comment: I'm overall happy with the phone. The bluetooth is a great feature, especially since I work from home a lot and it's good to not have to hold the phone.
The 'cons' of the phone is that the bluetooth only works from the base station and not from the handset so you have to be close to the base (that also if you want to mute as well; must be done from the base and not on the handset).
Another 'con' is that it does not have speed dial. I would think that is a typical standard feature on all modern home phones but not on this one. It's a bit frustrating since i used the speed dial function a lot on my old phone.
Other than that, I'm happy with the phone and would still recommend it.

Summary: Disappointing Speakerphone - AT&T EP5632
Comment: I bought this phone AT&T EP5632 5.8 GHz Digital BlueTooth Enabled Cordless Phone with Answering Systemfor the bluetooth functionality, to be able to answer my cell phone, or use my bluetooth headset with the phone. Both work fairly fine, though as others have noted, you have to often reconnect the phone/headset.

The big disappointment for me is the fact that this speakerphone is not useful for a home office. It has a half-duplex (not full duplex) speakerphone, meaning if the party you're calling is speaking, or has any noise on their end of the call, the microphone on the EP5632 is shut off. Callers will not hear you speaking until all is quiet on the other end of the line. This has been a problem for me on conference calls, where in order to speak and be heard, I had to pick up the handset. At that point, I wonder why bother with a speakerphone?

I recommend passing on the bluetooth phones currently available and go with a Panasonic phone instead. I am currently using a KX-TG5230 and the speakphone works great. Unfortunately, they do not offer a similar phone with bluetooth and 5.8GHz/Dect 6.0, though they do carry a 2.4 GHz phone (not good if you have a wireless network in the home.)Panasonic KX-TH112S Cordless Digital Answering System with Cellular Convergence Panasonic's bluetooth phone Panasonic KX-TH1212 DECT 6.0 Expandable Bluetooth Cell Link Convergence Telephone System w/2 Handsets does not have base with a speakerphone built in.

Maybe someone will create a phone that has bluetooth and doesn't have some major flaw, but so far I haven't found one. I've even tried the VTech LS5145 Vtech LS5145 5.8 GHz Digital Cordless Phone System with Bluetooth Wireless Technology but it's buttons felt cheap and small and the phone frequently lost connection to my cell phone.

Summary: Works great!
Comment: We've had our EP5632 for about two weeks now and love it! Our house has very bad cell reception, so there are only a few places where the cell phones work. We put the base station where we get good cell reception, then plug the phones into their chargers there. Now we can use the phone all over the house without having to pay for a land line. The phone works as advertised -- it's breathtakingly simple to pair your bluetooth phones to the base station, and once paired it's equally easy to place and receive calls using either cell.

There are downsides, however:
* The base station and the handsets don't share a common database of phone numbers. That means you have to type in each contact into each handset. Very annoying.
* As noted in some other reviews, the pairing can occasionally flake out, resulting in having to delete and re-add the phone. This doesn't happen very often, though.
* The "cellular" button is at the bottom-right of the keypad on the handsets, and must be used to make and receive cellular calls. Not very intuitive -- you naturally want to go for the top-left (green) button to pick up the phone.

Other than those minor inconveniences, however, a highly recommended product.

Summary: Excellent Phone System
Comment: This is a well designed product. The base is attractive and easy to use. It has both it's own digital answering system which can be switched off, and an alert light if you use voicemail. Ii would recommend this to anyone.

Summary: Best Phone Ever
Comment: The whole reason I got the phone was for the Blue Tooth capabilities. I use it at my desk so I can be wireless and it meets that criteria very well. I wasn't expecting all the other features that it came with like the answering machine. The answering machine has an indicator light and will beep to let you know there's a message waiting. I like that! The display is very easy to read. I could go on but the main points I've made and I couldn't be happier with it.
