Customer Rating: Summary: Wireless Does Not Work Properly Comment: I purchased this printer primarily because it claimed to have wireless printing capabilities. I took my time and carefully installed the software on my wife's laptop computer. When I finished the installation and set-up I tried to print a test page, only the top two inches of the test page printed. After several hours of unsuccessful troubleshooting, I decided to configure my own laptop for wireless printing and perhaps figure out why my wife's laptop would not print properly. I ended up with the same exact results, only the top two inches of the test page would print. HP's online help was pretty much useless.
Customer Rating: Summary: Prepare for hours of set up time Comment: HP Officejet J6480 All-in-One Printer
Based on the reviews, I expected this to be the answer to my dilemma - linking two PCs (in separate rooms) to one printer/copier/scanner. I was expecting set up to be a pain, but it was more than I expected. After 2 hours trying to install this on my own, and 6 hours on the phone with HP tech support, I am discouraged and disappointed. The wireless connection is erratic, and interferes with the PC-router wireless connection (so that the internet connection has become unstable). The scanner still doesn't work at all. That said, when they work, the printer and copier functions do produce good quality copies. I followed the advice of previous reviewers and installed the software as they recommended (and then using the HP tech support advice). You would think that HP would design this type of product so that it did not require 8 hours (and counting) to function as advertised.
Now moving on to "Plan B." Anyone have experience hard-wiring this sort of printer with a USB switch and two USB cables (one stretching ~50 feet)?
Customer Rating: Summary: HP all in one Comment: Great on speed, the printed paper flies out of the printer! Seems to use a lot of ink I think or maybe I'm printing more? Have not set up the fax yet, but use the scanner daily & it works well. Wish there were more info booklets with the printer for use guides.
Customer Rating: Summary: Got it all to work, but it could have been easier....... Comment: Well, it took a bit of time to figure out the last piece of the puzzle, but now I have all the functions working via wireless (print, fax, scan). I don't know if it will work for you, but here's what worked for me:
1) I never attached the printer -- just kept it wireless during setup.
2) Input my network's SSID name and password via the printer panel.
3) Never used the CD -- just went to the HP website and downloaded the basic software.
4) Used the software to configure the printer. After that, printing worked fine. But I discovered that I couldn't get the fax to work correctly (transmission error).
5) Did some homework and decided to reduce the fax transmission rate from 33k rate to 14.4k. Now the fax works! But, I couldn't figure out how to scan via wireless.
6) Did some homework, and figured out the scanning: Went into my printer control panel; discovered the assigned IP address for the printer via "properties"; input that IP address into a browser; that brings up a panel that allows you to do "webscan" among other things. That solved it.
Well, I don't know if that will work for anyone else, but it worked for me and now I'm very satisfied with the printer. Good luck!
Customer Rating: Summary: Good printer for the money! Comment: Product shipped quickly, took less than a week with free shipping. So far we have been very happy with the printer. It isn't too loud. Print quality is good for a home inkjet. Haven't used the other features yet.
